Paystub Generator with Tax and Deduction Estimates
Enter your income details and let PaystubKit estimate supported federal income tax, FICA, self-employment tax, state income tax, and manual deductions so you do not have to start from a blank template.
Short answer
PaystubKit can estimate supported tax and deduction lines for a pay-period document, including federal income tax, FICA-style lines, self-employment tax estimates, supported state income tax lines, and manual deductions. It is not a payroll provider or tax filing service.
Why tax calculations matter on a paystub
A paystub without tax and deduction lines is mostly a gross-pay receipt. It does not help you understand estimated take-home pay, deductions, or year-to-date totals. Blank templates often include rows for federal tax, state tax, Social Security, and Medicare, but leave the math to the user.
PaystubKit builds supported tax estimates into the workflow. You still need accurate income inputs, but the generator handles the pay-period arithmetic and shows the numbers in a structured preview.
What taxes PaystubKit estimates
Owner-employee tax lines vs freelancer tax estimates
In owner-employee mode, the document is built around wage-style records for S-Corp or C-Corp owner-employees. It can show federal income tax estimates, Social Security, Medicare, supported state tax lines, manual deductions, and YTD totals.
In freelancer / 1099 mode, there is no outside employer withholding taxes from wages. PaystubKit instead estimates self-employment tax concepts and income tax lines for net self-employment income. Choosing the wrong mode can make the document less useful.
Manual deductions
PaystubKit lets you add manual deduction lines for items the tool does not automatically determine. Common examples include health insurance premiums, retirement contributions, HSA contributions, union dues, or other recurring deductions.
Manual deductions are user-entered. They should match actual records and should be kept with the source documents behind the paystub or earnings statement.
What a tax-aware paystub should show
- Gross pay or net self-employment income for the period.
- Separate tax estimate lines instead of one unexplained deduction total.
- Manual deductions listed individually.
- Current and year-to-date totals.
- Pay period start, pay period end, and pay date.
- Clear labels showing that the document is self-generated when applicable.
What PaystubKit does not calculate
No MVP tax tool covers every payroll edge case. PaystubKit does not calculate every local city, county, or school district tax; does not run payroll deposits; does not file tax forms; and does not calculate final annual tax liability. Some state-specific programs, pre-tax deduction treatment, credits, or unusual payroll situations may require manual review.
Why templates often miss tax details
Templates provide rows and labels, but they do not know your state, filing status, pay frequency, mode, income, or deductions. For users who already know every number, a template can be enough. For users who need tax estimate lines, a generator is usually a better fit.

Frequently asked questions
Does PaystubKit calculate exact tax withholdings?
No. PaystubKit provides supported estimates for pay-period records. Final tax liability, payroll provider results, and tax filing results can differ based on credits, deductions, local taxes, and individual circumstances.
Which state taxes does PaystubKit support?
PaystubKit includes supported state income tax estimate lines and handles no-income-tax states differently from states with income tax. Some local taxes and special programs are outside the MVP scope.
Can I add deductions like health insurance or retirement contributions?
Yes. You can add manual deduction lines such as health insurance, retirement contributions, HSA contributions, or other recurring deductions. PaystubKit applies those amounts as entered.
Is this the same as a payroll tax calculator?
Not exactly. PaystubKit is a document generator with tax estimates built in. It does not run payroll, remit taxes, file forms, or replace payroll software.
Why do blank templates often miss tax details?
Templates usually provide labels and empty rows. They do not know your filing status, pay period, state, or mode, so users have to calculate tax and deduction lines manually.
Does PaystubKit file my taxes?
No. PaystubKit is not a tax filing service. Use proper filing methods or a qualified tax professional for tax return preparation and tax advice.
